I found this hike in Best Hikes with Dogs New Jersey.
We didn't do the dunes portion as we had so much fun on the beach.
From parking lot, head towards the beach, and turn left.
Walk 3.1 miles (past lighthouse on left) towards coast guard area.
Turn around and retrace route.
Restrooms & concession stands (closed in winter) at the parking lot
Head towards the beach from the parking lot, and once you hit the ocean, turn left (north):
Head north for 3.1 miles. Near the end there is a view of NYC.
