Our first stop of the day was to the Sandstone Visitor Center. We took a look at the exhibits and watched a movie about the park. We also picked up a map of trails in the Sandstone area. The park is spread out, so when planning a trip here, it's good to choose an area of the park and focus your hiking in that one section. Even driving within a section can take a long time - due to limited bridges that cross the river as well as narrow, twisty gravel roads. We didn't ask for hike recommendations today.

Our first stop was Sandstone Falls Overlook. This one was not exciting. It looked like there was a bit of a hiking trail past the overlook, but there was a no hiking sign. At least it was an easy drive. We headed back to the car and off to another hike we found on the map.
