Parking: - Ledges Trailhead, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Peninsula, OH
Map:- Provided at Visitor Center
Directions:- The parking lot is in the middle of the loop. From the parking area, follow the signs to the Ledges Trail. At the first intersection, turn right. When you meet the Ledges Trail loop, turn left. Follow the loop counterclockwise. We took detours at the sign for the Octagon and the overlook. Otherwise, we completed the loop and hiked back into the center the way we came.
We drove this morning from Beckley, WV to Akron, OH. We got in at 4pm, dropped off our luggage at a VRBO, and went out for a hike at Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This is a hike in an urban area. This is national park #7 for me for this year. We didn't have time to stop at the visitor center. Our first hike was the Ledges Trail. This was a busy hike. Most of the people there looked like locals, out for a walk. We really liked this hike. We came across large rock formations. They reminded me of tectonic plates, but the rocks were just formed by erosion. It passed by a formation called the Ice Cave. No ice, but it definitely was a chilly place on a hot day. We saw a sign for the Octagon, so we took a detour, expecting octagonal rock formations, but it just led to a parking lot of an octagonal building. We returned to the Ledges Trail. Then we followed a sign to an overlook. Yes, there was an overlook, but given what we are used to, it was not particularly exciting. We did like this hike though, as the rock formations were really interesting. Although I didn't find this national park particularly exciting, I did really enjoy this specific hike.
