I didn't sleep well last night, so we got a late start. Luckily, hiking helped to wake me up. Our first stop of the day was to the Canyon Rim Visitor Center again, to watch a brief film about the park. The history of this park is intertwined with coal mining. We also learned that the headwaters of the New River are in Blowing Rock, NC.

We chose to hike the Endless Wall Trail. It can be done as an out and back, or as a loop with the last 1/2 mile being a road walk. We decided to do it as a loop. We parked at the main parking lot - there are 3 parking lots you can use for the trail, but the main parking lot is the largest. What a great trail! We had drizzly weather, which just made all of the foliage look more vibrant. This trail overlooks the gorge and reminds me a lot of Linville Gorge. The plants here are very familiar, looking a lot like western North Carolina. This was an easy hike with lots of places where you could take short spur trails to see views. A lot of bang for your buck. It was a busy trail, because it's a such a popular hike, for good reason.

A nice spot in the visitor center

Club moss - reminds me of WNC
